Visual Arts 20 (Lesson 2.9)

My Work
This drawing was inspired by Antoni Gaudí’s El Capricho de Gaudí. Inspiration was also taken from a pepper grinder and fly agaric mushroom. A light pencil sketch was drawn first, then it was inked with a black pen. The colours were added using wax-based coloured pencils.

Stop and Think
Analyze M.C. Escher’s Relativity using the PDF below. Highlight or circle one example each of where he has used shape, line, and value to create this work. Write a sentence or two for each, explaining what you have observed.

Artist Connection
Create your own work inspired by 3D Joe and Max, opening the “ground” to something new underneath. Think about shape, line, and value (you don’t have to colour, but use shading) and use one-point perspective drawing.

This video shares how to use this technique, just making a deep, dark hole. Use the basics from this video to create your drawing, with whatever you would like below. You can also search online for other tutorials (written or video) to create this illusion.
