My Work
This is a landscape watercolour painting titled “A Moment in Spring.” I used a reference photo taken during a visit to the Patterson Arboretum in Saskatoon with my family. The majority of the scene was altered, such as the addition of a sandy pathway and animals, but most of the trees were kept in similarity. While painting, I tried using a limited colour palette by mixing the same base colours to create new shades. This helped in keeping a more consistent and unified composition throughout the painting.
The techniques I used for creating texture were scraping (for the grass and bark) and paint splattering (for the pathway).

Stop and Think
Research different watercolour techniques online and find at least one that interests you. It might be using a different tool or creating a new texture. Take one sheet of watercolour paper and divide it into four. Try three of the techniques from this lesson, as well as the one you researched, in the four quadrants of the page.

Artist Connection
(For this lesson, choose one of the two.)
1) As seen in the video, scrolls were used to present and protect Ancient Chinese art, and are an integral (essential) part of the artwork. Using “panorama mode” on a phone camera, create a landscape photo of a wide space. Then, take a series of pictures of the same area, spanning the same amount of space. Print off the series of pictures, put them together and create a scroll. How closely can you match up the image to real life and the panorama?
2) Do a critique of one of the above paintings, following the method earlier in this course. Use the page below as a guide for your critique.
