Close Encounters: A Photo Essay of Backyard Nature
Ever since I was very young, I’ve been fascinated by the natural world. I, along with my family, enjoy taking vacations through the provinces of Canada like Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia. It is always the beautiful landscapes and inhabitants that catch my interest. Unfortunately, I have to travel far from my home to experience such scenery. What if I can have something similar that is more close and personal? In this photo essay, I will share with you my observations of wildlife and natural phenomenon in one of the most common places—the backyard.
1. The Unknown
All the snow and ice have melted into the ground. Is this a sign that winter is finally over? How many more weeks should we wait until spring takes charge?
I guess time will tell.

I guess my assumptions were wrong. The land is covered again in a thick blanket of snow, creating another world devoid of colour. However, I did notice some sparks of life hidden in the white layers. The reds and browns seem to persist through this unpredictable climate.

There are more species of birds visiting our backyard than I can remember. In other words, more than I realized.

It is about time that I look up and observe the sky. What exactly is it that I am looking for? Will this land ever satisfy my desire for such beautiful scenery?

This is my last sighting of an American goldfinch visiting our backyard. Its bright, yellow plumage sets itself from the drenched and muted background.
